Q.  Why not list individuals’ names and phone numbers?

This excerpt from the A.A._® Guidelines - Internet explains:

 We observe all A.A.’s principles and Traditions on our Web sites.  Since anonymity is “the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions,”  we practice anonymity on A.A. Web sites at all times. An A.A. Web site is a public medium, which has the potential for reaching the broadest possible audience and, therefore, requires the same safeguards that we use at the level of press, radio and film.

The Guideline further addresses “netiquette” regarding use of telephone numbers on flyers for AA events:

Due to search services on the Internet, it is now possible to utilize phone numbers to find out a person’s identity, including full names and, possibly, other personal information.

For this reason we ask that all contact information be submitted to the website committee to provide to the Hotline volunteers.

 Q. Why is the Hotline Volunteers tab password protected?

Hotline volunteers use the 12-Step call list when answering phones for Kaua‘i AA.  The contact information for those 12-Step volunteers is confidential.
